As many as 12 motors illegally connected to drinking water supply pipelines were seized by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) vigilance officials during special inspections in the Kukatpally zone on Thursday (October 15).

The inspections were conducted in Vivekanandanagar Colony in Division 22 and Gayatrinagar ward between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. A vigilance team, accompanied by the officials concerned, identified and removed motors installed directly on drinking water pipelines to draw water.

According to Water Board officials, the unauthorised use of motors to extract water directly from supply pipelines affects distribution and reduces water pressure, depriving other consumers of an adequate supply.

Officials warned that such connections disrupt the equitable distribution of drinking water, particularly in areas where consumers depend on sufficient pipeline pressure to receive their regular supply.

The Water Board said special inspections would continue across its jurisdiction to identify illegal motor connections, with action to be initiated against those found violating the regulations.
