Privacy Policy

Last updated 1 day ago

This page says what Sisnoo stores about the people who read it, why, and what you can do about it. It covers this site only; the publishers we link to have their own policies.

Reading the site

You can read everything here without an account. Our servers keep ordinary access logs — the address a request came from, the browser it came from and the time — which is what any web server keeps and what we use to keep the service up and to spot abuse.

If you make an account

An account stores the e-mail address you signed up with and a one-way hash of your password. We never store the password itself.

What you do on the site

  • Comments store what you wrote, the name you gave, your e-mail address, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string. The last two exist so that a spam flood or a threat can be traced and acted on.
  • Likes and saves are attached to your account.
  • Follows record which publisher you follow, and the IP address the follow was made from.
  • Article view counts are totals. They are not tied to you, and they are not used to profile you.

If you use the contact form

We receive your name, your e-mail address, your subject and your message. The message is delivered to the site's mailbox, news@sisnoo.com.

Cookies and local storage

We set a session cookie so the site knows you are signed in, and a small cookie remembering the language you chose. Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage. There is no advertising or analytics cookie from us, and we do not run third-party analytics on this site.

Other companies we depend on

  • Search. Searching runs on Google Programmable Search. Your query, and your IP address, go to Google, and Google's own privacy policy applies to that request.
  • Publisher images. Article images are loaded from the publisher's own servers rather than copied here, so those servers see your IP address, as they would if you had visited them directly.
  • Embedded posts. When a story embeds a post from a social platform, that platform's player is loaded from its own servers and may set its own cookies.

How long we keep things

Comments, likes, saves and follows stay for as long as the account or the article exists. Access logs are kept for a short operational period and then discarded. Contact form messages are kept in the mailbox so a thread can be followed up.

Your choices

Write to news@sisnoo.com to ask for a copy of what we hold about you, or to have it deleted. If you want a comment removed, say which one. Deleting an account removes the account, its likes, saves and follows; comments may remain unless you ask for them to go too.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly hold data about them.
