Editorial Policy

This site aggregates. Nearly everything here was written by somebody else, so this page is less about what we commission than about what we take, how we credit it, and what we refuse to do with it.

Where the material comes from

Public feeds published by newspapers, agencies and magazines. We do not scrape pages behind a paywall, we do not take material a publisher has marked as off-limits, and we do not publish anything written by us under someone else's name.

How it is chosen

Selection is automatic: an item appears because the publisher put it in their feed. A human decides which publications we read and which sections they map to, and a story can be removed by hand, but nobody reviews each item before it appears. That is the honest description of an aggregator, and it is the reason the publisher's link is on every item.

How it is credited

  • The publisher is named and linked on the card, the article and the archive page.
  • The byline is whatever the feed carried. If a feed names no writer, the story says so rather than inventing one, and a credit for the byline is created only when the feed attributes the piece to a person.
  • Each article states the date the publisher ran it, separately from the date we indexed it.
  • Structured data on each article names the original address the story was derived from, so a crawler can see it is a republication rather than an original.

What we do not do

  • We do not rewrite article text or headlines.
  • We do not generate headlines, summaries or bylines for imported stories. Every word on an article page came from the publisher. The one page on this site that is written here is the daily briefing, and it says so on its face.
  • We do not publish sponsored articles or paid placement, and no advertiser chooses or influences the index.
  • We do not present an imported story as this site's own reporting.

The Sisnoo Daily

The Sisnoo Daily is the only page on this site that is written here. Once a day it reads the stories our publishers have run and sets out what happened, section by section, with a link from every line to the story it came from.

How it is written is stated on the page itself, every day. Where a language model is used, it writes from the day's headlines and is shown nothing else, its draft is checked against that material before publication, a section it drops or renames falls back to a plain summary, and the finished briefing names the model that wrote it. Where no model is configured, the briefing is compiled from the headlines rather than written, and the page says that instead.

A briefing is never a substitute for the story. It carries no fact that is not in the articles it links to, it reports nothing of its own, and it is corrected the same way an article is. If a sentence in it is wrong, tell us and it will be rewritten.

Corrections

Our own errors — a wrong section, a mangled headline, an image that does not belong to the story, a date we got wrong — we fix, and the article shows when it was last changed. Errors in a publisher's text are theirs to correct: we will not edit another newsroom's words, and we will remove the item if they ask. See Corrections and takedowns.

Funding and independence

The site is funded by advertising on its own pages. Advertisers have no access to what is published here.
