If the value of news becomes a matter of the state’s thinking, the ruler’s desire and geopolitics, is that news? What should news be like, why and for whom should it exist? Universally accepted principle driven one side but, news is not focused on such issues regarding news. News is becoming a means of fulfilling vested interests. Although there is no equality, inclusion and equity even in the world, at least this should not be the case in news. This is what the world and people are looking for now.
ROSSOTRUNICHESTVO is apparently an organization that works as an agency spreading humanity around the world. It has recently also come to be called the Russian House. ROSSOTRUNICHESTVO and Sputnik News Agency hosted a program about SputnikPro international agenda had representatives from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Mongolia, China, Morocco, Tanzania, Thailand, Mexico, Lebanon, Oman, Cambodia, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Ethiopia and other countries in Moscow.
Under the Sputnik Pro International Agenda program, arrangements were made for lectures by experts on numerous topics including news and geopolitics, photojournalism and the use of AI, search engines, war journalism, the future of global media, breaking news, new angles and many more. There were also activities such as asking questions and engaging in interaction.
The open debate explored why journalism is becoming increasingly challenging today, how news content is produced, why it is produced, and for whom it is produced.
Since Russia was the host country, topics such as how Google optimizes news about Russia in its search engine, why this happens and what impact it has when geopolitical issues become news were at the center of the debate. A journalist directly reporting on the Russia-Ukraine war not only shared her experiences, she also spoke about war journalism and its various dimensions. This made the atmosphere of the lecture class even more exciting.
Overall, the lecture class held at Sputnik’s office came to resemble the classroom of researchers pursuing a PhD scholor at a university. The Russian people’s nature of discussing things openly was interesting. They said that a war of news has been waged against Russia. While we are facing numerous sanctions, Sputnik has also fallen victim to the same pressure. But, we want to tell the truth. We want to tell the reality. Experts themselves may identify these questions, but the cold that had begun in Moscow had shown warmth.
As beautiful, clean and peaceful as Moscow was, the Russians were equally aggressive. Clear understanding seemed to be that the current situation had come about because of the interests of Western countries and America and others. While staying in Russia, these issues also became serious questions among the things I experienced. Even if I do not get immediate answers to these questions, I will definitely seek them upon a day.
