Delhi Protest Today Live Updates: Ashutosh Ranka will spend his birthday in Tihar Jail after a Special Executive Magistrate sent him and his fellow Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader, Saurav Das, to face days of judicial custody following their entry into Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
The order came on Wednesday, October 14, a day after the two leaders and other party members allegedly entered the venue by climbing its locked gates to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Delhi Police defended the preventive action, citing alleged repeated violations of the law and claims that the leaders used social media to encourage similar activities. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the custody order, while party leader Ajinkya Shinde secured release on a personal bond.

Delhi Police said it acted against Das, Ranka and Shinde because of alleged repeated attempts to disturb public peace and violate the law. In a statement on Wednesday, police also cited concerns that the leaders could encourage other people to participate in similar activities through social media.
“In view of their alleged repeated attempts to disturb public peace and violate the law, Ashutosh Ranka, Sourav Das and Ajinkya Shinde were arrested under the relevant preventive provisions of law. Their alleged attempts to instigate others through social media to engage in similar unlawful activities were also taken into consideration,” the cops said.
Police said the Special Executive Magistrate considered the details of the proceedings and the possibility of further violations if the accused were released. The authorities argued that the leaders could encourage others to break the law, prompting the magistrate to remand Das and Ranka to five days of judicial custody.
“The SEM court, in view of their repeated violations of law and serious apprehension that if released on bail they will again violate law and instigate others to violate law, remanded Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka to 5 days of judicial custody,” the police said.
The two leaders have been lodged at Tihar Jail, according to PTI. Shinde, meanwhile, was released on a personal bond after the proceedings.
