Donald Trump Latest News: Greenland has once again become a focus of US President Donald Trump’s Arctic strategy, with the president claiming that large-scale oil, gas and mineral exploration is preparing to begin on the resource-rich island. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump highlighted Greenland’s natural resources and strategic location, arguing that the territory could help protect the United States and Europe against future military threats.
“Massive Oil, Gas, and Mineral Exploration is getting ready to begin in our new and beautiful Greenland!” Trump wrote, without providing details about the companies involved, the proposed exploration sites or when work might start.
The statement has renewed questions about Washington’s plans for Greenland, a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Although the island holds deposits of valuable minerals, its government halted the issuance of new oil and gas exploration licences in 2021, citing climate concerns and doubts about the commercial viability of the industry. Trump’s latest announcement also comes amid growing US interest in strengthening its military presence across the Arctic.

Donald Trump Latest News: Why Does Trump Want Greenland’s Oil, Gas and Minerals?
Trump has repeatedly highlighted Greenland’s location and natural resources as reasons for expanding US involvement in the Arctic. In his latest post, he argued that the island could help defend North America and Europe by giving US forces more time to detect and intercept incoming weapons.
The president added that “there are Experts that are saying that the amount of easily available Oil is far greater than that of almost any land, anywhere in the World.”
He also said that “any future attack” on the US would have to pass over Greenland, where American defences could intercept drones, missiles and other weapons.
Greenland’s location between North America and Europe makes it important to military surveillance and missile warning systems. The US already operates Pituffik Space Base in northwestern Greenland, which supports missile warning, space surveillance and other defence operations.
Trump described the island’s geographical advantages by saying, “It gives us time, location, and sightline, like nowhere else in the World!”
