Hurricane Isaias Latest Update: Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and flooding to the Florida Panhandle and parts of Alabama. The storm felled trees and power lines, damaged roads and left hundreds of thousands of electricity customers without power. Although the threat was not over as Isaias weakened after moving inland, forecasters warned of more heavy rain, possible flooding and potential tornadoes in several areas. Here’s a look at the storm’s impact, the damage reported and the weather risks that remained.

Hurricane Isaias Latest Update: Which are the affected areas?

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 hurricane, bringing strong winds and dangerous weather to communities along the Gulf Coast. Coastal areas experienced flooding, while trees and power lines were knocked down in several locations. In Pensacola, Florida, residents shared images and videos showing storm damage, including damage to a building’s roof. Some counties temporarily suspended emergency response operations because conditions were too dangerous for crews to work safely. Officials urged residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until roads and weather conditions improved.

How Many People Were Left Without Power After the Storm?

More than 726,000 electricity customers in Florida and Alabama were without power early Saturday, as per the latest reports. Strong winds, falling trees and damaged power lines contributed to widespread outages across the affected areas. Some residents had to deal with power cuts alongside flooding and blocked roads, making everyday activities more difficult. One Pensacola resident reported losing electricity during the storm and using a generator to manage without regular power. The full extent of the damage and the time needed to restore electricity were not immediately clear.
