KATHMANDU: A leaf plate enterprise run by seven women in Tansen Municipality-2, Palpa, has created new employment and income opportunities by utilizing Sal leaves found in local forests. Established with an investment of Rs 400,000, the ‘Didibahini Cottage Industry’ has turned traditional skills into a commercial venture.
According to the industry chair Kalpana Poudel, the facility produces 1,000 leaf plates daily using machines. The enterprise generates a monthly income ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000. Poudel noted that integrating modern technology with traditional methods has made the products more durable and attractive than those made by hand. She added that these products are helping to replace plastic plates used in feasts and events.
