New Delhi: The resignation of Union Minister of State L. Murugan, whose Rajya Sabha tenure was due to continue until April 2030, has added to speculation over a possible Cabinet reshuffle in the Narendra Modi government, with the October-November window emerging as a key period for the exercise.

Murugan, who served as Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, resigned from the Union Council of Ministers and sought to relinquish his Rajya Sabha membership, saying he wanted to return to grassroots politics and devote himself full-time to strengthening the BJP in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

He was renominated by the BJP for a second Rajya Sabha term from Madhya Pradesh in February 2024 and was re-elected in April that year. His term was scheduled to continue until April 2030, meaning he had more than three years remaining in the Upper House when he decided to step down.
