Pond inauguration takes a plunge, quite literally

The inauguration was meant to mark the revival of a pond. Instead, it ended with elected representatives taking a dip and a crowd cheering from the bank.

At Peechaniparamba near Angadipuram on Sunday afternoon (October 4), Manjalamkuzhi Ali, MLA, gave the renovated Thiruthilkulam pond an unexpected opening by pushing local ward member Shabeer Manjambra into the water.

The crowd cheered as Mr. Shabeer surfaced, swam to the shore and climbed out. He then turned around and pushed Perinthalmanna Block Panchayat president Najma Thabsheera into the pond. Ms. Thabsheera was caught off guard but took it in good humour.
