Pope Leo XIV has shared that he will get a surgery this week to remove a recently detected lung lesion. The pontiff shared the news after the Angelus prayer at St. Peter’s Square this evening. He will likely be hospitalised for 1 week following the surgery.

During his Sunday address in St Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV updated the faithful on his medical condition. He said that recent medical examinations had revealed a small, localised nodule in his lung, and doctors advised removing it through surgery.

The pontiff noted that the lesion had been found at an early stage and was clearly defined. Acting on medical advice, he chose to go ahead with the operation within the next few days.
