The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) has demanded a separate Bill to protect teachers, on the lines of laws enacted in the State to protect medical professionals and advocates.
D. Shashi Kumar, General Secretary, KAMS, said there have been instances where parents, guardians, relatives, members of the public or organised groups have abused, threatened, assaulted or manhandled teachers and school heads. “They forcibly enter school premises, organise intimidating demonstrations and obstruct academic activities. We need to protect our teachers from harassment by parents,” he said. KAMS has appealed to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to enact a Karnataka Education Safety, Institutional Security and Teacher Protection Bill.
