Punjab Bandh 15 October: Police have stepped up security across Mansa in Punjab ahead of the October 15 bandh called by supporters of anti-drug activist Parminder Singh Jhota, whose killing has triggered protests and demands for justice. Authorities have begun placing barricades on key roads, deploying additional personnel and checking commuters as activists urge people from across the state to gather in Mansa.
The measures have also raised concerns about possible disruptions to bus services, road travel, markets and other daily activities.
The bandh comes amid anger over Jhota’s death and renewed calls for action against the alleged drug trade. While the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced its support for the shutdown, residents should not assume that every school, college, market, petrol pump or government office will remain closed. The extent of the disruption will depend on local participation and further announcements from authorities and organisations.

Punjab Bandh Today: Why Are Protesters Calling for a Shutdown?
Jhota’s family called for the October 15 bandh after the activist died in a shooting in Mansa on Tuesday. Police began placing barricades on the Barnala-Mansa road and other routes leading into Mansa on Wednesday. Officers have also set up a heavier security presence in the town and along approach roads to manage the expected gathering.
Authorities have stationed loaded tipper trucks along roads as a backup measure.
