The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is scheduled to discuss the issue of cybersecurity with high-ranking officials on Wednesday, October 14, due to the mounting fears regarding the threats against Russian digital infrastructure. However, the Russian government has ruled out that the meeting had anything to do with the recent attacks on Russian data centers from Ukrainian drones.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, cybersecurity had become a rather urgent issue in the current context due to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). “Artificial intelligence technologies offer great opportunities and benefits, making everything more efficient. But at the same time, of course, attempts by various states to weaponize these new technologies… may represent threats to whole sectors of any country’s economy,” Peskov explained during the press briefing.
According to him, Russia is not an exception and has to deal with these challenges. “As far as we are concerned, we are no exception, and we need to be ready for these challenges. That is why the president holds this meeting now.”
