Rafael Jodar defeated former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4 in the Shanghai Masters 2026 semifinals on Saturday to reach his first ATP Masters 1000 final. The 20-year-old Spaniard needed one hour and 44 minutes to beat the 2019 Shanghai champion and secure the biggest final appearance of his career.
Jodar will face fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final, setting up an all-Spanish Masters 1000 title match. It is the first such final since 2017 and the first to take place on a hard court.
The world no.13 also became the first player to be born in 2006 to reach the ATP Masters 1000 final. Jodar is now one win away from breaking into the ATP top 10, less than seven months after entering the top 100.
