Alejandro Davidovich Fokina came from a set down to defeat fellow Spaniard Rafael Jodar 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in the Shanghai Masters final, claiming his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title and the biggest trophy of his career.
Fokina recovered after a one-sided opening set, winning the second-set tiebreak 7-5 before breaking through in the deciding set to complete the comeback.
The victory marked a major milestone for the Spaniard, who secured his first Masters 1000 crown in his 49th main-draw appearance at this level. No player since Borna Coric at the 2022 Cincinnati Masters had needed as many appearances to win a maiden title in the category.
