The US president, Donald Trump, has slammed Norway after the announcement of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, saying that the selection in this year is “disgraceful and embarrassing”. The president stated his disappointment after the prize went to a former international judge at the International Criminal Court, Navi Pillay, claiming that he had “never heard” about the “mystery individual” who won the prize.
The accusations against the award-givers came at a political rally in Syracuse, New York, just a few hours after the Nobel Peace Prize 2026 announcement on Friday. The US president has said, “This is a permanent blot on the country of Norway. This is not going to be forgotten.”
Trump has shown multiple times his intention to win the Nobel Peace Prize and criticised the decision-making behind this award, which he missed in the previous years. This latest statement of the president resembles his statements from 2025 after the prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

What Did Trump Say About the Nobel Peace Prize?
In his speech to the supporters in Syracuse, President Donald Trump criticized Pillay’s awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize in strong terms. He challenged the validity of the prize and accused the selectors of working against democracy and democratic principles.
“The Nobel Peace Prize has forever been discredited by radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and actually enemies of civilization,” Trump argued. He also reiterated his previous statements of having “settled eight wars” and being “about to settle or win two more”. However, he failed to provide any evidence in support of his claims.
It can be seen from his speech that Trump continues to be disappointed in not getting the Nobel Peace Prize which he feels that he deserves for resolving international disputes.
