US President Donald Trump has accused the Yemen-based Houthi rebel group of purposefully escalating attacks against Saudi Arabian infrastructure in a calculated attempt to drive up global oil prices ahead of the upcoming American midterm elections.
In a series of public statements issued on Tuesday, the president suggested that the renewed hostilities are being directed by Iran, further complicating the tense geopolitical and economic landscape just weeks before voters head to the polls to determine the balance of power in the US Congress.
What Did The US President Say About The Houthi Attacks?
The accusations were broadcast directly to the public via the president’s Truth Social platform. Addressing the recent strikes against Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump asserted that the previously dormant rebel group had re-emerged “probably at the behest of Iran” to actively inflate energy costs prior to November. In his statement, the president characterised the sudden surge in regional aggression as an attempt to hurt the American economy, describing the group’s actions as “very nasty” and “not nice.”
