According to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), an oil tanker reportedly sustained serious damage and exploded in a mine strike in the Strait of Hormuz. As per Iran’s state-owned Tasnim news agency, the oil tanker was laden with crude oil and had disabled its navigation and positioning system while sailing out of the strait.
IRGC described the movement as unauthorized but did not provide any further information such as identity, flag, nationality or damage sustained by the oil tanker. Such claims remain unsubstantiated as of now. The incident is troubling from a perspective of safety of the commercial vessels passing through this vital energy corridor of the world.
