Iran is facing increasing financial strain as the United States maintains its naval blockade and economic sanctions, with CENTCOM chief Adm Brad Cooper claiming that Tehran has lost $25 billion in oil revenue. US authorities have also frozen $350 million in Iranian cryptocurrency in recent weeks.
In a video message released on Friday, Cooper said the financial squeeze was affecting Iran’s military establishment and its regional allies. He claimed that some Iran-backed groups were redirecting funds to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), while Iranian authorities were withholding salaries and benefits from public employees and security personnel.
The developments come as the Trump administration seeks concessions from Tehran, including on its nuclear programme, as part of efforts to end the conflict.

Cooper said the financial pressure had become severe enough to affect payments within Iran’s military network. According to him, some regional militia groups were reportedly holding back payments to their own fighters to transfer money to the IRGC.
