Vice President JD Vance has publicly acknowledged differences with President Donald Trump over the Iran war, offering a rare glimpse of disagreement within the administration as Washington weighs further military action against Tehran.
In an interview aired Friday on former White House spokesman Sean Spicer’s talk show, Vance said he understood criticism of the conflict, including objections raised by former Trump ally Tucker Carlson.
“I think I have had that disagreement,” Vance said, referring to differences with Trump over the war. His remarks come as Trump considers possible strikes on Iran’s fortified Pickaxe Mountain nuclear site and the US continues its military pressure on Tehran.

Vance was responding to a discussion about Carlson, who has strongly criticised the US military campaign against Iran. The vice president acknowledged Carlson’s opposition to the conflict, saying the two had discussed their differing views privately and publicly. He also rejected the idea that disagreements over Iran should lead him to disavow Carlson entirely.
However, Vance challenged Carlson’s argument that the war violates international law, questioning how that position aligns with the America First approach. His comments provide a public indication of differing views over Iran within Trump’s political circle, although Vance did not outline specific policy alternatives during the interview.
