US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: Trump Mocks Iran’s Leadership
Addressing a rally on Wednesday in Arizona, Trump asked who would want to be the president of Iran, and then wondered whether he had perhaps been too harsh when making his statements.
“Who would want to be the president of Iran? Raise your hand. You don’t? I don’t either, and I think I may have gone a little too far. I apologize for saying it because I have no idea who the hell we are dealing with,” he said, Fox News reported.
The statements came after a threat made at a previous campaign event in Alaska to take action against Iran. “We are going to do something to Iran, you wait. Just you wait. We are going to do a number on Iran,” he said.
In addition, the US president made an assertion that Iran’s nuclear arsenal was hidden deep under the tons of rock and stated that Tehran would not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.
He made these statements while there were speculations that the Pentagon had been directed to get ready in case there is a possibility for launching a large-scale war once again. Nevertheless, the reported preparations do not confirm a new military action by itself.
The statements of Trump show that Washington is uncertain what to do next, and the military pressure, nuclear problem and diplomatic struggle continue to form the war.
US-Iran War Latest News: Hegseth Faces Anti-War Protests
During the annual meeting of the Association of the US Army, Hegseth was defending the US stance on Iran amidst protests against the war in a panel discussion. “’The protestors screaming all sorts of slogans – Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,’ he reportedly told the crowd as quoted by Al Jazeera.” According to the New York Post, at least five interruptions occurred within the first half an hour of the panel discussion. The protesters condemned the war against Iran and the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. Some referred to Hegseth as “war criminal” and “coward.”
The panel discussion was about Project Agincourt that was a Pentagon project geared towards hastening the development and deployment of autonomous military systems such as robotics and drones. The protests revealed domestic dissent in connection with the ongoing war as the US government was trying to justify its stand regarding the nuclear programme of Iran.
