The Philadelphia Eagles are turning to Tanner McKee after ruling out starting quarterback Jalen Hurts for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Hurts is dealing with a superficial blood clot in his calf, leaving Philadelphia without its starting quarterback at a difficult point in the season.
McKee, who recently reclaimed the backup job from veteran Andy Dalton, is now expected to lead the Eagles’ offense against Carolina.

Who Is Tanner McKee? Meet The Eagles’ Backup Quarterback
Tanner McKee is a 26-year-old quarterback who played college football at Stanford before Philadelphia selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Standing 6-foot-6, McKee offers a different playing style from Hurts. He is primarily a pocket passer who relies on his height, arm strength and ability to deliver throws from inside the pocket.
His journey to the NFL was also unusual.
McKee survived melanoma as a teenager and later spent nearly two years in Brazil on a missionary assignment before beginning his college career.
He subsequently developed into Stanford’s starting quarterback and entered the NFL as a developmental prospect.
McKee has made six NFL appearances entering this week’s matchup. Sunday’s game will provide another opportunity to demonstrate whether he can handle a starting role.
