Afghanistan and Bangladesh are set to meet in a one-off Test at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Cricket Stadium from October 9 to 13, 2026. The fixture carries added significance for Bangladesh as it marks the team’s first-ever Test appearance in the UAE. Afghanistan will be captained by Rahmat Shah, with Hashmatullah Shahidi and Qais Ahmad bringing experience to the side. Shahidullah Kamal and Yamin Ahmadzai are also players to watch, with Shahidullah having scored 538 first-class runs at an average of 76.85 and Yamin having taken 42 wickets in the competition.
Bangladesh will look to its experienced core, including Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, while Najmul Hossain Shanto takes charge as captain. Tawhid Hridoy has also earned a return to the Test squad after producing a record-breaking 350 for Bangladesh A in first-class cricket. The two teams have met twice in Test cricket, winning one match each. Their most recent encounter came in June 2023, when Bangladesh secured a huge 546-run victory, with Shanto earning Player of the Match honours after scoring centuries in both innings.
