By Toplal Aryal, Gulmi (Resunga), Sept. 29: A total of 231 families in Gulmi have been displaced due to the risk of floods and landslides, following continuous rainfall over the past four days
According to the District Police Office, 15 families in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, 30 in Satyawati Rural Municipality, 40 in Ruruchetra Rural Municipality, 12 in Musikot Municipality and 25 in Resunga Municipality have been displaced due to the risk to their homes.
Similarly, five families in Gulmidarbar Rural Municipality, 70 in Chandrakot Rural Municipality, 15 in Dhurkot Rural Municipality, 12 in Isma Rural Municipality and seven in Chhatrakot Rural Municipality have been moved to safer locations as their homes were at risk of landslides, said Superintendent of Police Bhimkiran Bogati, chief of the District Police Office, Gulmi.
Bogati said the displaced and at-risk families had been accommodated in coordination with the local governments at relatives’ homes, vacant houses in their villages and safe public buildings. Efforts are underway to reopen the major roads affected by the rainfall, including the Kaligandaki Corridor, Madan Bhandari Highway and Rudrabeni-Wami Taksar road, as well as most rural roads in the district.
