BIRATNAGAR: The major water supply project in Biratnagar Metropolitan City is nearing completion, with residents expected to receive over 10 million litres of water daily before the Dashain festival. T

he project, supported by a grant of approximately Rs 2.54 billion from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has finished its primary construction phase, according to the Nepal Water Supply Corporation in Biratnagar.

Officials stated that only about 25 days remain before the project is officially handed over. Although the original construction deadline was set for October 2026, most of the work has been completed ahead of schedule. Currently, only minor technical tasks, such as electrical connections, remain. Santosh Rauniyar, chief of the Nepal Water Supply Corporation in Biratnagar, confirmed that efforts are underway to operationalise the new system before Dashain.
