Bosnia and Herzegovina General Election Results Live: Bosnia and Herzegovina’s latest election has once again placed the country’s complicated ethnic power-sharing system under the spotlight, with early results putting a left-leaning moderate and two nationalist candidates ahead in the three-way presidential race. The vote could influence whether the Balkan country finally moves forward with its stalled European Union ambitions or remains caught in years of political deadlock.
Preliminary results from more than 90% of polling stations showed Denis Becirovic leading the Bosniak contest, while Serb nationalist Zeljka Cvijanovic was ahead in the race for the Serb seat. Darijana Filipovic of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina was leading the Croat contest. The results remain preliminary, and the Central Election Commission is continuing to process votes.
Around 3.4 million people were eligible to vote in the October 4 general election. Along with the three members of the Presidency, voters chose national lawmakers and officials for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s two main entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska.
