Counting of votes for five Assembly bypolls and the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election began at 8 am on Friday, October 9, 2026. The contests are being held in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry for Assembly seats, and Assam for the parliamentary constituency.

BJP candidates have established leads in West Bengal’s Nandigram and Rejinagar, as well as Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha seat. In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK’s K. Banumathi is ahead in Dharapuram, while TVK’s Maragatham Kumaravel leads in Madurantakam. In Puducherry, AINRC candidate Ashok Anand is ahead in Thattanchavady.

  • Assam, Nagaon Lok Sabha: BJP’s Devashish Sharma leads AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal by 43,418 votes, with 92,345 votes against Ajmal’s 48,927.
