The US Department of Justice has initiated a major legal offensive aimed at stripping citizenship from nearly forty foreign-born individuals, marking the largest single-period denaturalisation filing under the administration of US President Donald Trump.
According to federal court filings and internal departmental disclosures, the targeted individuals are accused of procuring their naturalised status unlawfully by concealing serious criminal convictions, submitting fraudulent documentation, or lying under oath during their citizenship interviews. The coordinated enforcement sweep underscores a sharp hardening of federal immigration policies and a renewed focus on prosecuting immigration fraud.
Federal prosecutors across multiple jurisdictions filed civil denaturalisation complaints targeting individuals convicted of severe offences, including healthcare fraud, child sexual abuse, drug trafficking, and federal identity falsification.

Department officials stressed that the legal actions target individuals who fundamentally compromised the integrity of the naturalisation process. “These criminal actors exploited our legal immigration system and concealed grave criminal conduct to obtain citizenship they never deserved,” a senior Department of Justice official told national legal correspondents in Washington.
