The central government employees who were eagerly expecting the next increment in Dearness Allowance (DA) would need to wait for the official news. The Union Cabinet convened on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, but did not make any announcements regarding the increment in the Dearness Allowance which was due from July 1, 2026.

Two other proposals were cleared by the Union Cabinet. One is the grant of productivity-linked bonus to eligible railway employees and the continuation of National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP). Dearness Allowance is an allowance given to central government employees based on the rise in prices. On the other hand, the Dearness Relief (DR) is offered to the eligible pensioners.

Why Are Central Government Employees Waiting for the DA Hike?

The DA is normally reviewed by the Central Government two times in a year, where the amendments are effective from January 1 and July 1 respectively. However, the notification of this change occurs after the date of effectiveness.
