By Santosh Subedi,Kaski, Oct. 14: The Malshree Dhun, kites in the sky and rice plants swaying in the fields are signs that Dashain is approaching. Along with these, certain songs truly make people feel that Dashain has arrived. Dashain songs cover various themes, including sadness, the feelings of those living abroad who cannot return home, and the joy of village life.
The song ‘Namuchhe Aama Dahi Ma Tika’, sung by Narayan Rayamajhi, brings many Nepalis living abroad to tears during Dashain.
The song tells the story of people who have gone abroad for employment and cannot return home for the festival. Written by Laxman Rayamajhi, the song was first recorded in 1998. It was later recorded in the voices of Krishna Bhakta Rai and Laxmi Neupane in 2001.
Among the younger generation, ‘Kodo Phulyo Barima’, featured in the popular Nepali film Muglan, remains one of the most frequently played Dashain songs.
Written by Loknath Sapkota and composed by Suresh Adhikari, the song features the voices of Udit Narayan Jha, Deepa Narayan Jha, Narayan Lama and Juna Prasai.
