Doctor X: Mafia in White Episode 1 Review: What if the best doctor in a hospital was also the one person who refused to follow its rules? Netflix’s new Korean drama Doctor X: Mafia in White explores this idea through a surgeon who believes that medical skills matter more than seniority, money or professional connections. Starring Kim Ji-won, the series opens with a familiar medical drama setting but gives it a different direction by placing a fearless doctor against a system where power often matters more than patients.
The first episode introduces a strong central character and sets up a conflict that could carry the series forward. While the hospital politics are not entirely new territory for Korean dramas, Kim Ji-won’s presence gives the story a clear centre. The question now is whether the series can turn its promising opening into a consistently engaging story.
What Is Doctor X: Mafia In White About?
The story follows Gye Su-jeong (Kim Ji-won), a highly skilled surgeon who works as a freelance doctor through a medical staffing agency. She is sent to Guseo University Hospital to fill a vacancy, but her arrival quickly creates trouble for the people in charge.

Su-jeong is not interested in pleasing senior doctors or following rules simply because they have always existed. She believes that a doctor’s ability and responsibility towards patients should matter more than position or influence. This puts her at odds with a hospital culture shaped by ego, corruption and professional rivalries.
The series also features Lee Jung-eun as Jang Hui-suk, who runs the staffing agency that sends Su-jeong to the hospital, Son Hyun-joo as hospital director Bu Seung-gwon, and Kim Woo-seok as intern Park Tae-gyeong. Together, they form the main group around which the hospital’s conflicts begin to develop.
