KATHMANDU: Medical education reform activist Dr. Govinda KC has given the government a one-week ultimatum to revoke permission for MBBS and nursing programs at Shahid Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University in Geta, Kailali, arguing that the institution has yet to meet the required infrastructure, staffing and legal standards.

In a statement issued on Monday, Dr. KC said allowing the university to run medical education programs without meeting the prescribed criteria was irresponsible and could undermine the quality of medical education and put people’s health and lives at risk.

He also demanded that the Medical Education Commission immediately reverse its decision to increase student quotas at several medical institutions, including Nepali Army Medical College.
