France Protests Update: Over 500 Schools to Remain Closed Today As Escalating Protests Cause Violence and Vandalism

France Protests Update: The government of France has announced that there will be no classes for close to 500 schools amid ongoing unrest. Education minister Edouard Geoffrey said that the decision was taken after 24 schools across the Mediterranean country were either ‘burned or ransacked’ since the start of the protests.

According to France’s education minister  Edouard Geoffrey, classes in 500 schools across France will be ‘totally or partially suspended’ due to security concerns. The protests that erupted last week have continued in some of the country’s most prominent cities including Paris, Marseille, Montpellier, Toulouse and Nantes.

The ongoing student led protests in France are linked to multiple reasons. Students are protesting over teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating school buildings and inadequate educational resources.
