A new Game Informer cover story has revealed fresh details about the Florida-inspired world, including its weather, wildlife, transportation and character design.
Rather than focusing only on Vice City’s streets and the criminal story of Jason and Lucia, the latest information shows how much attention Rockstar has put into the smaller details that players will encounter while simply exploring the map. From tropical storms and changing weather to more than 170 animal species, Leonida is being designed as a world that continues to feel active even when players are not following a mission.

Weather could become one of the most noticeable parts of GTA 6. Rockstar has rebuilt its weather technology to create conditions that can vary across different parts of Leonida instead of making the entire map experience the same weather at once.
Game Informer confirmed that tropical storms and hurricanes will appear in the game. Rockstar’s weather systems can create moving cloud formations, localised rain and wet environments that remain affected after a storm has passed. Players may even see a storm taking place in another part of the map while standing under clearer skies.
For major storms, Rockstar told Game Informer that players can expect “heavy clouds, strong winds, dense atmospherics, and a lot of rain”. The studio has not revealed how frequently hurricanes will occur or whether they will directly affect missions and the main story.
The upgraded wind system also adds smaller environmental reactions. Wind can affect hair, vegetation, water and objects around the world, making weather feel more connected to the environment instead of acting as a simple visual effect.
