The team travelled through Miami areas, the Florida Keys and other regions across the state. They spent time with residents, police officers and even gang members. Rockstar says this deep field research was meant to make the fictional state of Leonida feel more real, more detailed and more diverse. The goal was to bring authenticity to every corner of the game’s environment.
Why Did Rockstar Travel Across Florida for GTA 6 Research?
Rockstar’s developers conducted extensive research trips to understand the people, places, culture plus atmosphere that would inspire GTA 6’s fictional state of Leonida. According to Rockstar head of development Aaron Garbut, the team initially travelled in small groups before returning with larger teams to study the region in greater depth. The developers documented locations, spoke with locals, listened to stories, and explored different communities.
