Marc Marquez won the Indonesian MotoGP Sprint Race on Saturday to take the lead in the championship standings after title rival Jorge Martin slipped to fourth following a late-race setback. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider finished 0.509 seconds ahead of Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura, while Fabio Di Giannantonio secured third place on his birthday.
The sprint began dramatically as polesitter Raul Fernandez and Marco Bezzecchi crashed out at the first corner. Martin, starting from the second row, took the lead and built a sizeable advantage, with Marquez chasing him closely.
However, Martin allowed Marquez to pass with five laps remaining. He then went wide while attempting to respond and could not recover a podium position, finishing fourth. Marquez capitalised on the opportunity to secure the victory and valuable championship points.
Ogura finished second, while Di Giannantonio completed the podium. Alex Marquez came fifth, followed by Pedro Acosta and Fermin Aldeguer. Francesco Bagnaia finished eighth, with Fabio Quartararo taking the final points-paying position in ninth.
The sprint victory strengthened Marquez’s championship position as the title battle intensified ahead of Sunday’s Indonesian Grand Prix.
