The Health department has given shape to a district-level monitoring mechanism to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential medicines at government hospitals.

Health Minister K. Muraleedharan has directed the Principal Secretary of the Health department to constitute a district-level medicine availability monitoring team in every district to verify complaints regarding medicine shortage, assess the actual situation and adopt corrective measures before shortage occurs.

The Additional District Medical Officer (Health) [DMO] or Deputy DMO (Health) will serve as the convener of each team. Hospital superintendents, an assistant drugs controller or drugs inspector, pharmacy store superintendent or officer in charge of the pharmacy, and the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL) warehouse manager will be members.
