By Kedar Timalsina,Banepa, Oct. 10: Government, public and private land in Nagarkot, a popular tourist destination near the federal capital, and surrounding areas has been demarcated to prevent uncontrolled construction and encroachment.
The first phase of field demarcation has been completed with technical support from Mandandeupur Municipality and the Survey Office in Kavrepalanchok.
A team led by Jaya Ram Tamang, a survey officer at the Survey Office, began demarcating government and public land in the upper areas of Nagarkot, Naldum and Thulichaur in Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Mandandeupur Municipality in the first week of Bhadra.
Tamang said the first phase of field demarcation in the Nagarkot area had been completed. The technical team surveyed land occupied by more than 48 landowners and scientifically established the boundaries of adjoining government land in Nagarkot, Naldum and Thulichaur.
Tourism-related businesses have expanded rapidly in recent years, with large resorts, hotels and other commercial structures springing up in the upper parts of Nagarkot, particularly in Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Mandandeupur. The municipality initiated the demarcation process amid concerns that unchecked construction could lead to encroachment on public and forest land.
