A short trip to Moscow, Russia, was far more than a journey from Nepal to another country. This tour provide an opportunity to witness firsthand the beauty and culture of a country built through thousands of years of history and culture.
From September 20 to 26, I had the opportunity to visit Moscow as part of the Sputnik Pro International Agenda under the New Generation programme. The visit offered an opportunity to experience the city’s distinctive character, historic landmarks and vibrant urban life.
The journey began at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 11:30 pm on September 19. Excited and overwhelmed by the thought of visiting Russia for the first time, sleep was difficult during the flight. The journey included a transit in Guangzhou, China, before finally arriving at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow.
After completing immigration formalities, I was welcomed by a member of the organising team, along with another Nepali participant. We then drove towards the city. Looking through the car window, the roads, buildings and surrounding landscape offered my first glimpse of Moscow. Everything felt new and fascinating, particularly the well-managed roads, orderly urban landscape and impressive surroundings.
We reached the AZIMUT City Hotel Smolenskaya at Smolenskaya Square, in the heart of Moscow. Its central location, close to Arbat Street and the iconic Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, made the arrival even more memorable.
A warm welcome from the organising committee and the view from my room on the 15th floor added to the excitement. The first call was to my husband and family, with whom I shared the breathtaking view of Moscow from the hotel window. Being thousands of kilometres from home while sharing that moment with loved ones made the experience particularly special.
There was also excitement about trying Russian food and experiencing the local flavours and culture that I had heard so much about.
