Mumbai have opted for a youthful leadership combination for their Ranji Trophy opener, naming Ayush Mhatre as vice-captain while leaving out Suryakumar Yadav from their 16-member squad. The 42-time champions, led by veteran Siddhesh Lad, will begin their campaign against Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium on October 11.
Suryakumar’s omission comes despite the former India T20I captain confirming his availability for Mumbai’s opening Ranji fixture a week ago. The latest setback adds to a difficult period for the right-hander, who lost the India T20I captaincy a few months back and will now miss out on the opportunity to feature in Mumbai’s season opener.
Suryakumar Yadav Misses Mumbai Ranji Opener Despite Making Himself Available
Suryakumar Yadav has been left out of Mumbai’s squad for their Ranji Trophy opener against Chandigarh despite making himself available for the fixture. The decision comes at a difficult stage for the former India T20I captain, who has already been omitted from all three of the national team’s current international squads. Mumbai have named a 16-member squad led by Siddhesh Lad, with Yashasvi Jaiswal included after confirming his availability for the October 11 clash at the Wankhede Stadium.
