Michael Bracewell has opted for a casual contract with New Zealand national cricket team for the 2026-27 season as the experienced all-rounder looks to pursue an opportunity in Australia’s Big Bash League. The 35-year-old has relinquished his place on New Zealand’s central contract list but will remain available for the Black Caps, with his immediate focus on the five-match T20I series against India beginning October 22 in Christchurch.

Bracewell becomes the sixth New Zealand player on a casual playing contract this season, joining Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne and Tim Seifert. Northern Districts batter Nick Kelly has taken Bracewell’s place on the central contract list and earned his first national contract. For Bracewell, the decision represents a chance to maximise his white-ball opportunities while continuing to play a role in New Zealand’s international plans.
