Rejinagar (West Bengal) By-Poll Election 2026: Rejinagar in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district is set for a closely watched Assembly bypoll on Tuesday, October 6, with the BJP, Trinamool Congress factions, Congress, CPI(M) and Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) competing for a seat that became vacant after Humayun Kabir resigned.
The constituency has 2,56,546 voters and 315 polling stations, with security tightened ahead of voting.
The contest has attracted particular attention because Rejinagar has a large minority electorate and the BJP is attempting to expand its support among voters who have traditionally not been part of its core base. At the same time, the divided Trinamool camp, Congress, CPI(M) and AJUP are looking to prevent the BJP from making gains in the constituency.

Rejinagar is Assembly Constituency No. 70 in West Bengal. The Election Commission announced the bypoll after the resignation of sitting MLA Humayun Kabir. The official schedule fixed October 6 as polling day and October 9 as the counting date.
Kabir had won Rejinagar in the April 2026 Assembly election on the AJUP ticket. He also won the Nowda seat and subsequently retained Nowda, leaving Rejinagar vacant and triggering the by-election. His son, Golam Nabi Azad, is now contesting the vacant seat for AJUP.
The bypoll is therefore not simply a battle between the BJP and TMC. It has turned into a multi-cornered contest involving several political parties and two Trinamool factions.
