SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Launch Today: A pre-dawn rocket launch from Florida has put a fresh batch of supplies and scientific experiments on its way to the International Space Station (ISS), supporting astronauts and research that could benefit people on Earth. SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket on Tuesday, October 13, carrying the Dragon cargo spacecraft on the CRS-35 mission for NASA.

The flight also drew attention beyond the launch site after a rare-looking, silvery-blue noctilucent cloud appeared in the sky and observers reported seeing the launch as far away as Tennessee.

The mission combines routine space-station resupply with research into vision restoration, heart tissue, brain disorders and advanced materials. It is also delivering the final set of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays, which will help increase the orbital laboratory’s power capacity.

The Falcon 9 lifted off from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 6:33 a.m. EDT (10:33 GMT) on October 13. NASA confirmed that the launch carried more than 6,300 pounds (about 2,860 kilograms) of supplies, equipment and scientific investigations to the ISS. The spacecraft separated from the rocket’s second stage about nine minutes after liftoff and began its journey towards the station.

The CRS-35 flight marks SpaceX’s 35th commercial resupply mission to the orbiting laboratory under its contract with NASA. The mission will support station operations while delivering experiments designed to help scientists investigate human health and the behaviour of materials in microgravity.

One of the mission’s major deliveries is the final pair of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays, also known as iROSAs. Once astronauts install them during planned spacewalks later this fall, the arrays will increase the station’s available electricity.
