According to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, however, the public display of their friendship has been particularly difficult for Lively to watch. The reported tension comes against the backdrop of Swift and Lively’s friendship reportedly falling apart after the pop star became entangled in Lively’s legal dispute with It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni.

Swift and Johnson were spotted together at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, where Johnson presented Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Honors award. One of the biggest signs of Swift and Johnson’s growing bond came with Patient Zero, Swift’s latest song, for which Johnson features in the music video.

Their friendship became even more visible a few days later when Johnson took over hosting duties on Saturday Night Live. Swift made a surprise appearance during Johnson’s opening monologue and playfully presented herself as the actress’s “literal therapist.”
