US-Russia Diesel Deal: US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he had reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin under which Russia would “immediately release” diesel supplies for the United States and international markets. Trump predicted that the additional supplies would help bring fuel prices down rapidly.

In a post, Trump said the increased availability of diesel would push prices “COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!”

According to Trump, Putin had agreed to release 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, followed by another 500,000 tonnes in November. A further one million tonnes would be supplied after that, he said. Trump added that an additional three million tonnes could reach the market “within a short period”, depending on the condition of Russian refineries that have been targeted by Ukrainian attacks.

Russia also reaffirmed its willingness to supply oil and petroleum products to the United States and other international markets. Putin expressed confidence that the move would benefit the global economy.

US-Russia Diesel Deal: Trump Announces Immediate Fuel Supplies

Trump’s announcement comes as the United States faces pressure from rising fuel costs linked to the war involving Iran. The conflict has pushed up global energy prices, increasing the cost of petrol and diesel for American consumers.

The proposed Russian diesel supplies are intended to increase availability in the market and ease some of the pressure on fuel prices. However, the extent and speed of any price reduction will depend on the actual deliveries, market conditions and the impact of other factors affecting global energy supplies.

Putin later confirmed that he had discussed the global energy situation with Trump on Friday.
