The popular British author and former Conservative Party member, Jeffrey Archer, has passed away at 86 years of age. The news of his demise was broken out by his publishing company, HarperCollins, on October 5, 2026, just a day ahead of the worldwide publication of his last book titled Adam & Eve.

In the statement issued, HarperCollins stated that Archer “passed away suddenly and peacefully at home,” and he was “writing between sessions” at the time of his death. There is no official information regarding the cause of death. It was mentioned previously that Archer confessed to having been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014, yet HarperCollins has not confirmed the disease as the cause of death.

Archer left a distinguished, yet controversial legacy. With a writing career spanning five decades, he has sold more than 300 million books worldwide, which have been translated into numerous languages and distributed globally. Some of the most famous works by Jeffrey Archer are Kane & Abel, Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, First Among Equals and The Clifton Chronicles.

Archer passed away at his home on October 5, 2026, aged 86. His publisher said that his death was sudden and peaceful and had happened during one of his writing breaks. The exact cause of death of Archer is not yet known.

His death became quite newsworthy in view of the upcoming publication of his last novel, titled Adam & Eve, which was to happen the next day after his death. He was actively promoting his new novel and had been scheduled to attend Cheltenham Literature Festival to discuss the book. It has been reported by AFP that Archer had confessed to having prostate cancer in 2014. However, there are no reports that link his death to this cancer.

Who Was Jeffrey Archer?

Jeffrey Howard Archer was born on 15 April 1940. Jeffrey Howard Archer went on to become one of the most well-known popular novelists of Britain, although this was not all that he was known for.

Prior to turning novelist, Archer had been active in politics and worked as a Member of Parliament as a member of the Conservative Party. He was elected Member of Parliament for Louth in 1969, when he was 29 years old. It was at that time that he was one of the youngest members of the House of Commons. He was there for five years before leaving the House of Commons in 1974.

He came back to Conservative politics again. He worked as the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party in the 1980s during Margaret Thatcher’s tenure as prime minister. In 1992, he was appointed as a life peer and served in the House of Lords until 2024.
