Ask anyone arranging private flights out of Mumbai where passengers are heading and Dubai comes up often. The journey is short enough to feel straightforward, usually around three hours, but the city also works well as the first stage of a longer trip. From Dubai, travellers can continue easily towards Europe, the Maldives, the Seychelles or elsewhere in the Gulf.

That flexibility is a large part of its appeal. For some passengers Dubai is the destination. For others it is a place to spend a night or two before continuing, which is why the city has become such a natural point between India and longer international journeys.

For someone flying privately for the first time, the route is also relatively easy to understand. The main decisions are practical: which airport is more convenient, what size aircraft suits the passengers and luggage, and whether Dubai is the end of the journey or only one part of it.

Choosing the right Dubai airport

Private flights into Dubai generally use either Dubai International Airport or Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central.

Dubai International is the airport most travellers already know and can be the more convenient choice for Downtown Dubai, DIFC and central parts of the city. Private passengers are handled separately from the main airline traffic through dedicated business aviation facilities, so the process is different from arriving through the commercial terminals.

Al Maktoum sits farther south and plays a major role in Dubai’s private aviation market. It can be particularly useful when an aircraft needs to remain on the ground for longer, or when parking and operating flexibility are more important than being close to central Dubai.

There is no single airport that is right for every trip. A passenger may prefer Dubai International because it cuts the drive to a meeting, while the operator may favour Al Maktoum because the aircraft needs to stay for several days. Arrival time, parking availability, airport slots and the next sector all feed into that decision.

Flying from Mumbai

Mumbai to Dubai is a relatively simple private jet sector because range is rarely the limiting factor. The flight usually takes around three hours, although the exact time depends on the aircraft, routing and winds.
