Why Is UK Stock Market Up Today?

The key driver behind the FTSE 100 remains better performance in equity markets across the world. The tech shares of America continued to surge, with Nasdaq hitting a record closing high. Nvidia surged by 2% while Tesla, Meta Platforms and Microsoft saw gains as well.

With the aid of positive signals from global markets, the European market has been rising, with the UK benchmark index moving higher for a third consecutive day. The sectors which contributed towards the rising FTSE include healthcare shares, industrials, finance and selected mining stocks. The FTSE 100 closed up 0.34% to 10,497.94 on Monday while FTSE 250 closed down 0.29% to 24,123.75.

UK Stock Market Today: How Are Lower Oil Prices Supporting Shares?

Prices for oil are falling on Tuesday as this helps in improving the sentiment among investors. The Brent crude oil is trading at $99.49 a barrel after falling 0.8%, whereas US West Texas Intermediate fell by 1.1% to trade at $88.43, according to Reuters.

The reason behind the fall is that there are stronger shipments of Middle East crude oil, together with the decision of the G7 countries to release 100 million barrels of oil from their strategic reserves, hence reducing worries regarding possible supply shortages.
