Premier League clubs have spent a record £3.5bn on new players during the transfer window, breaking the league’s spending record for a second consecutive season.
More than half of the league’s clubs spent at least £100m, with several setting new records for their own transfer spending.
Manchester City were among the biggest spenders, investing an estimated £450m in their squad. Their late signing of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez for £125m matched the British transfer record set when Liverpool signed Alexander Isak last year.
City also signed England midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for about £116m and Senegal forward Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for a reported £65m.
